Fibreglass Calculators

Use our fibreglass catalyst ratio calculator, resin quantity calculator, material coverage calculator and roll coverage calculator to estimate laminating materials.

Fibreglass Catalyst Ratio Calculator

Estimate MEKP catalyst required for polyester and vinyl ester resin in weight and volume.

General guidance only. Always follow the resin manufacturer’s Technical Data Sheet and Safety Data Sheet. Resin litre conversions are estimated using an assumed resin density of 1.1 kg/L.

Fibreglass Material Coverage Calculator

Estimate linear metres required from a 1.27 m wide roll, total reinforcement weight and approximate reinforcement volume.

Based on a standard 1.27 m wide fibreglass roll. Estimates do not include overlap, trimming waste or offcuts.

Fibreglass Resin Quantity Calculator

Estimate reinforcement weight, resin quantity in kg and litres, catalyst quantity, and total laminate materials.

General guidance only. Actual resin usage varies based on reinforcement type, technique, overlap, waste and laminate efficiency.

Fibreglass Roll Coverage Calculator

Estimate total area coverage, reinforcement weight and approximate reinforcement volume from a roll length using a 1.27 m roll width.

Based on a fixed fibreglass roll width of 1.27 m. Estimates do not include overlap, trimming waste or unusable offcuts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Polyester resins are commonly used for fibreglass laminating, composite fabrication and structural repairs. When combined with fibreglass reinforcement materials such as chopped strand mat and woven cloth, they form strong and lightweight composite structures used in marine construction, automotive repairs, mould production and industrial applications.
Unwaxed polyester resin is designed for laminating and remains slightly tacky after curing so additional fibreglass layers can bond chemically. Waxed polyester resin contains a wax additive that rises to the surface during curing to create a hard, non tacky finish, making it suitable for final layers or finishing coats.
Polyester resins are typically cured using MEKP catalyst. The catalyst initiates the chemical reaction that hardens the resin and forms a durable composite laminate. The correct catalyst ratio should always be followed according to the product technical data sheet.
Polyester resin is commonly used with fibreglass reinforcement materials including chopped strand mat, fibreglass cloth, woven roving and fibreglass tape to create strong composite laminates for structural and repair applications.
